Career & Job Search Strategies
Finding a job is not a simple task. At the Career Center, we know it can be very stressful to find your first job after college. We offer a variety of resources and tools to help you on your way, but don't wait until the last minute to start looking for a job!
The Connections website is your personal link to employers and job opportunities. In your Connections account, you can apply for jobs and sign up for on-campus interviews. Employers from the local area to the entire United States use the same website to post employment opportunities for students and graduates. You will also find links there to other great job search resources; be sure to check out the CareerShift and GoingGlobal websites!
The Career Center sponsors several career fairs each academic year; most occur during the fall semester. Over 250 employers visit Mississippi State each semester to talk face-to-face with students about careers and job opportunities. We host organizations representing a wide variety of industries, including government and non-profit employers. Visit the events page for upcoming career fair events.
On-Campus Recruiting (OCR)
Employers participate in on-campus recruiting during the fall and spring semesters, which means their representatives come directly to campus to interview students. To participate, you must apply for interviews in your Connections account. Most resume deadlines are set for 3-4 weeks before the interview, so begin your search for opportunities early in the semester. Questions about On-Campus Interviews? Your Career Center Coordinator can help!

Our staff is available to help you prepare for your job search; we welcome individual appointments for critiquing resumes and cover letters, providing job search strategies, teaching interview skills, and discussing job offers.
