Internet Job Search Resources

There are thousands of ways to search and apply for jobs using the Internet. While spending some time using online job boards is encouraged, do not use these websites exclusively. Remember, no one method is a "catchall", and using more than one approach will help to ensure your job search is successful.


Employer Websites
Visit the websites of employers that interest you. Look for the Jobs/Careers/ Employment /Human Resources page.


CareerShift is a centralized job search database free to MSU Students and alumni. CareerShift searches company websites, job boards, etc. to compile a comprehensive list of job postings. It allows you to conduct both basic and advanced job searches by job title, keyword, and geographic location. You can get to CareerShift by logging into Connections.


Going Global
Going Global is the leading provider of country specific career and employment resources for individuals interested in working outside of their home country. Going Global is available for use by MSU students and alumni. It provides Country Career Guides, USA City Career Guides, corporate profiles for the world's leading employers and a job search database with over 500,000 worldwide job and internship listings. Access Going Global by logging into Connections.


Professional Associations and Organizations
Visit the job boards on the websites of professional associations and organizations in your field. Both members and non-members can often access the job boards on these sites.


Employment Outlook and Occupational Trends
Understanding the employment outlook and trends for your field of interest is important when conducting a job search. To find out what industry and career areas are experiencing growth check out the US Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook and the O'Net Online.


General Job Boards
Don't forget about CareerbuilderMonster, and Indeed among countless other Internet job boards.
