Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)

Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)

A collaboration between the Career Center, Student Support Services, and The U.S. Department of Labor

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is a nationwide program designed to provide employment opportunities in the federal and private sectors for qualified college students with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy and the U.S. Department of Defense work together to manage this program. A variety of other agencies also actively participate in the consortium.

How does WRP work?

A program recruiter will visit campus each fall to interview students who are interested in summer internship opportunities and/or full-time permanent positions in the federal and private sectors. Participating students will not be interviewing for a specific summer and/or full-time position. Instead, during the interview, the student will provide a resume for the WRP recruiter with information as to what area of the federal and private sector they are interested in. After the interview, the WRP recruiter will prepare interview summaries and enter information about the students into a recruitment database. Then, in early December, application packages and interview evaluation forms generated by the database are made available to potential employers in the federal and private sectors.

Who is eligible to participate?

The WRP serves students who have a disability (However, it is not a requirement for students to be registered with the Office of Disability Services).  People falling into one of the categories below would be eligible to interview on campus with a WRP recruiter:

  • Full-time students seeking an MSU degree (unless the severity of the disability precludes the student from taking a substantially full-time load)
  • Part-time students in their final semester at MSU before graduation
  • Alumni who have graduated from Mississippi State University within the past year

Participating students will be responsible for:

  • Signing up for a 30-minute interview with the WRP representative
  • Completing the WRP application packet, which includes a resume, to be posted online and handed in at the time of the interview
  • Setting up a meeting with Lisa Gooden-Hunley, Senior Coordinator, to prepare for the interview
